Abstract Language Development Training
The Abstract Language Development Training focuses on ‘The Blanks Model’ by Blank, Rose and Berlin, 1978

OVER 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Delivering training courses to local schools
I have recently visited two small Primary Schools in Cornwall to deliver training in Abstract Language Development.
The four levels within the model are defined in terms of the perceived distance between the language and the materials available to the child/listener. There are a variety of different types of questions at each level. This means the model is highly flexible and can be applied in different communication settings across a multitude of topics and curriculum areas.
During the training the four level of the model are described and learners get a chance to practice using real objects or composite pictures to practice asking questions and getting the desired answers.
"The training was very useful to my job as a teaching assistant, I thought the training was clear and I understood the words Ruth used throughout, in future I will ask less questions and use more descriptive language, I now understand how to develop a child’s understanding of language between these."
Clear training suited to your needs
The training course takes approximately 1 and a half hours to deliver dependant on the group size. This training is particularly useful for teaching staff who work with children who have delayed or disordered language development, autism, learning difficulties/disabilities.
